Managing Multiple Twitter Accounts with HootSuite

by John Newman on June 19, 2009

There are a lot of clients out there for managing multiple Twitter accounts, both online and desktop based.  If you’re like me, you prefer not to have software other than your browser accessing the internet.  Keeps things moving fast.  In that case, an online client is right for you.

Now, before you go exploring all over the web trying out every thing you find, let me make a recommendation:  HootSuite.  In my opinion, HootSuite is the best online Twitter client to date.  Rather than telling you why with written words, however, I’ve made the following video to show you.  Enjoy!

[HINT:  Right click the video and select "SHOW ALL" before playing]

[UPDATE:]  After making this video, HootStuite did in fact let me in to the private beta.  Perhaps I’ll do a review of it for you in the near future.

Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in… to Twitter, that is.  After a few months of sabbatical from the popular social networking engine I have found myself once again inextricably bound to the Twittersphere.

It’s just in time too because Twitter is starting to get some really serious air play.  As such it so happens that a friend of mine has finally submitted to the pressure and set up his very own account.  After one or two tweets and not many followers he sent me the following direct message:

Hey bro, got some advice on how to get this started?

In fact, I do have some advice.  It’s one thing to become an expert marketer or social media guru, and it’s another thing to just get going in the first place.  When a new user goes exploring the vast universe of Twitter Elites with their tens of thousands of followers it can be a bit disconcerting to return “home” to a number of followers in the single digits.  So how should you go about getting into the groove?

Here’s a list of six essential DO’s and DON’Ts for anyone new to the service.  Of course, seasoned tweeters have all heard this a million times before but today our focus is on the beginners. [click to continue…]

What’s in the Works

by John Newman on May 3, 2009

cymascope-dolphin-translator-by-john-reid-thumb-550x400-16262Greetings, fellow tag surfers!  It’s been a while since either Nate or myself have posted on the blog and I wanted to let everyone in on what’s been going on behind the scenes.

First and foremost of the things that have been slowing down the blog posting was a big combo of finals, graduations, and job applications.  Luckily most of that’s over with now so we ought to be able to pick things up a bit around here.  Second, Nate and I have been working on a bit more fine tuning of the podcast.  The new tweaks will be implemented shortly.

Also, we’ve started putting an experimental idea together that you may be interested in.  Nate and I have been working on a band concept that we think may be the way of the future for the music industry.  We have a plan to drop all the old school music business models and see how well a band can do utilizing some of the new options and techniques available for other businesses.  We’ll let you know when the first album drops.

Other than that, we’ve got a ton of side projects we’ve been working on, all of which will be delivered to you the tag surfers before they are debuted anywhere else.  Everything from forming an alliance with the Final Hero Design Co. to writing a feature film screenplay (current title:  Rescue Cody).

This is a place for entrepreneurs, my friends!  But since entrepreneurship involves ironing out the kinks, it may be a little while before we start throwing up daily posts.  Until then catch a tag, ride the wave!  Later on.
